Why I Love Amsterdam

Amsterdam is by far my favourite city!

I travelled to this beautiful capital a total of four times by now and each time feels just as amazing as if it was the first time.  I love how picture perfect everything looks when you’re there – flowers blossoming everywhere you look, pretty cafés, delicious food and let’s not forget to mention that wherever you walk you always end up next to a canal. Speaking of strolls, if you’re thinking about going to Amsterdam for the first time, be careful not to walk in the bike lane. Getting run over by a bike is so common that it almost became an inside joke, but seriously – be careful.

The city is so picturesque that I ended up capturing endless amounts of pictures. Pretty by day and stunning by night, the twinkling fairy lights above the canals gave the illusion of a fairytale.

During this visit, I aimed to explore places which I hadn’t been to before and they were so worth it.

Lost in Amsterdam Coffeeshop

My favourite coffee shop. It is so colourful from the inside and the atmosphere is so homely.

Zaanse Shaans

Zaanse Schans is a neighboirhood in the Dutch town of Zaandam, near Amsterdam. Historic windmills and distinctive green wooden houses were relocated here to recreate the look of an 18th/19th-century village.

Marken

A fisherman village on the island with population of just 1800 people. We also visited the marken clog experience where we were shown a demonstration of how clogs are made.

Volendam

Volendam is a Dutch town on the Markermeer Lake, northeast of Amsterdam. It’s known for its colourful wooden houses and the old fishing boats in its harbour, which is lined with seafood vendors.

Vondelpark

Vondelpark is Amsterdam’s largest public park. It’s so nice to walk in and apart from admiring the greenery,  one can also find beautiful architectural places to look at. We decided to rent a bike while we were there since it makes seeing the entire park easier and quicker than if by foot. Also, we got a ‘taste’ of the Dutch travelling life by bike.
